The world is over-drawn with roads
As a spider spins a web to cross branches blowing in the breeze.
Mostly blue these
Back roads in inviting hue
That meander lazily through Suguaro-strewn, scorpion deserts,
Circle the verdant, verde hills,
Climb long rows of resolute, stalwart mountains
On endless switchbacks besides crystalline falling waters,
Welcome the light of the Sun and bid it a longing farewell, once again
From sandy ocean's edge and craggy, hidden ledge,
Pierce small towns and villages of those living and dead who stay
For want of love, mercy, and money.
To marvel at the wonders of the world in motion
And search your soul along these blue threads alone
Is truly agony amidst ecstasy.
Lyrics
Blue Highway Blues...by John Jump
Blue Highway Blues.
No one left to talk to but these too tight shoes,
And no one left to see, from sea to shining sea.
I've got to hide,
I've got to hide my face from the wind.
-------------------------------------
Refrain:
The stars as bright as the night we first met.
The moon is asleep at the top of the hill.
The south wind whispers the song of the Whippoorwill.
Blue,
Blue Highway Blues
--------------------------------------
Wheels were the way
I spun my time in gypsy rhyme
To move from day to day.
Now I mark those years like leaves beneath my feet
'Cause they're only,
'Cause they're only in my way.
----------------------------
Refrain:
The stars as bright as the night we first met.
The moon is asleep at the top of the hill.
The south wind whispers the song of the Whippoorwill.
Blue,
Blue Highway Blues
------------------------
I've seen tears
Through the years,
And miles of smiles with my back road pals
I live with just one fear,
I could fall asleep and wake up with my memory gone,
(Gone like the wind)
And I would not know,
Know my way back home
--------------------------
Refrain:
The stars as bright as the night we first met.
The moon is asleep at the top of the hill.
The south wind whispers the song of the Whippoorwill.
Blue,
Blue Highway Blues
