Deckard, The Ghost Hunter...
While hiking alone along a lonely spur of the Ouachita Trail about 30 miles north of Hot Springs, AR one evening I traversed Deckard Mountain, so named after the pioneer of 200 years long passed who settled in the area on this mountain.
Long about sunset I began to get fearful as I was hiking. A general feeling of unease draped over me. A crow kept following me as I walked, calling at me loudly. I felt strongly that someone was behind me walking but I never saw anyone. But, I felt it strongly. I kept turning around to see who was there. No one. I began to walk faster and faster. I got out of the woods as fast as I could and drove home, stopping at a local 1- pump gas station. Talking with the proprietor I learned of the "Legend".
The local Legend has it that Deckard was killed by a bear while hunting one evening. Hikers and hunters will tell you that they have been run out of these woods by his ghost...a man who follows them on the trail but never crunches a leaf or breaks a twig as he walks.
This song is the story of that man, Deckard, The Ghost Hunter. I hope you enjoy my song. Have a great weekend, folks!
PS: If you ever get near Deckard Mountain in Arkansas north of Hot Springs, go for a hike one fall evening. You may meet Mr. Deckard
