I wanted to write a children's song that was very evocative, one where you could close your eyes and picture the scenes. I wanted it to appeal to kids as well as adults. I wanted the imagery and symbolism to transcend what most children's songs were about. Margaret Bianchetta did a marvelous job singing this. She was THE KEY to this song being credible. The band performed amazingly as well. It feels to me as if we painted a children's book with our music.

Lyrics

Kite fly high in the sky
When the wind blows how high it will go.
I hold the string tight with all of my might
And watch it do this Waltz in Blue.

Buzzin' bees get high in the trees
Makin' honey as they please.
They dance in the park until it grows dark,
They call their review the Waltz in Blue.

All God's children get by
Some of them walk and some of them fly.
But sometime each day each in their own way
They pause to do the Waltz in Blue.

Melancholy leaves in the fall
Some say we live to die and that's all.
I can't speak for you, but I know it's true
We're here to do the Waltz in Blue.

Scat singing...
