Paradise at my Feet co-written by John Jump and Eduardo Cabanas.

All instruments and vocals arranged and performed by John Jump

During the early days of the Road Apples band I went over to my mate, Ed's house. We sat down to write a song or two and this composition came out of it. We collaborated quite well as I remember. We performed this song at all our shows and I continue to include it whenever I play out.

Lyrics

The midnight train was pullin' out for Tulsa.
The engineer pulled the quill down low it's a long lonesome sound.
I saw the brakeman jump on board as the engine left the yard.
Two hundred miles and his job was done, mine had just begun.

I can't recall the endless miles I've ridden all for free,
But their with my now like a photograph printed over me.
That Missouri moon shown like a queen, an Idol in the night.
She spoke to me in a quiet dream in the misty rail yard light.

Chorus:
Now my brother plants the seed he grows just what he needs.
Tells me the best thing he does for me is workin' on himself.
Got no time for wanderin' it's next of kin to a sin.
I got off when I found that paradise was at my feet.

Runnin', ridin', layin' low, I'm livin' off the land.
I'm leavin' on the fastest train to anyplace I can.
'Cause it's a life too fast for livin' it's a life to short to die,
When all my dreams and endless schemes go quickly passin' by.

Chorus...

I awoke, I took a breath, I turned to look around.
I recall the first time I left my own home town.
It was in that same railyard I'd slept the night before.
There by the tracks out in a field a wise man's words came home.

Chorus...
